v. Ötzi, 2020; Oil on Canvas2x 101,6x101,6cm. Ötzi was found in 1991 in the Ötztal Alps on the border between Austria and Italy. With 5300 years, he is the oldest corpse found in human history. Preserved by the ice, he enabled findings concerning our physical connection with the neolithic era. Within the last ten years scientific findings have made advances concerning the circumstances sourrounding his murder. The suspicion of ritualistic sacrifice as well as the prominence of the crucifix places him into relation with the manifested religious and spiritual connotation of the Alps. The philosophical impact of the discovery has been disregarded in light of his touristic commodification in Austria.
